Paleo Pancake

The Paleo thing has been going on for 3 days now, and so far, so good.

Last night, I was at my brother's house and we watched some basketball.  There were plenty of snacks, but I stuck to nuts (mostly Brazil nuts and cashews), and had a couple of chicken wings, as well as some salmon that they'd baked with lemon and garlic, which was really good!

I didn't workout yesterday, but I'm not really too concerned with that right now.  I'm doing a few hundred squats today, and I'll probably do 100 pike presses for my shoulders by the end of the night.  Just sort of here and there type stuff to keep my body from eroding.  Lol.

Today, I bought some almond flour and made some pancakes!  They're very nutty in flavor, as you'd imagine - there's no "real" flour, for instance.  It's just almond flour, baking powder, coconut/almond milk, vanilla extract, eggs, and oil.  It called for canola oil, but I used whatever my mom had.  It wasn't labeled, so I have no clue.  Haha.

I put pure maple syrup on it, and it was really good.  Different, but in a surprisingly good way!  I'm pretty psyched.  Not that I eat a lot of pancakes, but knowing I can make them and keep up the nutrition plan makes me feel upbeat about it.  :)  Here is a picture of the pancake.

The Plan

This is a blog where I will write about my goal of becoming my own version of the character Star-Lord from the hit Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy, starring Chris Pratt.

I'm sure you all have seen the transformation Chris went through from Parks & Recreation to Guardians.  Of course, he was fit for Zero Dark Thirty, and pretty fit for Moneyball prior to gaining so much weight for P&R, but the fact remains, he got ripped to play the starring role in last Summer's blockbuster - 2014.

I've read a lot about what he did to get into shape, and the two main takeaways are 1: Work your ass off in the gym.  2: Low carb Paleo-style diet.

Now, he says he maintains his physique with about one hour per day in the gym, but initially to get a lot of the fat off, and put on muscle mass, he says it's just a lot of work.  Plain and simple.

Do I have 3-4 hours per day to spend in the gym?  I guess I do.  But is it smart?  Hell no.  I don't have a trainer, and I have no doubt I'd overtrain and/or injure myself, so that's not going to happen.

However, I do have a plan.

I will do P90X resistance Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  Yoga on Tuesdays and Saturdays.  Core Synergistics on Thursdays and Sundays.  Non-resistance days, I'll also do either Intervals X or CVX.

As for the eating plan, I'm doing my interpretation of Paleo.  The experts all seem to have varying ideas on what exactly is okay to eat, and a lot of them say to experiment, because everyone is different.  But the main thing that's agreed upon is that grains are a no-go.

No pasta, oats, corn, or bread.  White rice, sweet potatoes, and beans are debatable.

In my mind, I'm okay with root vegetables such as carrots, taro, and sweet potatoes, as well as the occasional serving of beans, though I'll aim to limit my bean intake.  Rice is out.

I also plan to drink quite a lot more water, and make that a priority.  Chris Pratt said he was drinking two gallons every day and spent a large portion of his day in the bathroom because of it.  He said it was a nightmare.  Well, I'm not going to drink two gallons per day.  But I do aim to get up to about one gallon per day.

Today is 3/27/2015 and here is my starting picture:

**I was trying to imitate Star-Lord's posture and expression, so forgive me for the scowl.  It was on purpose, but future updates will be more "normal".**

I started the diet yesterday.  I'm not counting my calories right now, but I have managed to avoid grains thus far, and I've subbed out coconut milk for half & half in my coffee.

My carbs will come mostly after workouts in the form of bananas and sweet potatoes or taro.  Otherwise, I'll eat a lot of green vegetables, fish/beef/chicken/eggs, and healthy fats like walnuts, almonds, or avocados.  Also, cooking mostly with coconut oil.

That's pretty much it.

My time table is one year to look like this:
